My Lifelong Safari: Joining the Family Business at Tett Safaris
I’m Alex, Carolyn’s Tett’s daughter, and the newest member of the Tett Safaris team. I’m both grateful and excited to be working at Tett Safaris, turning a lifelong passion into my life’s work.
Safari life isn’t a new chapter for me; it's the story I was born into. With a Zimbabwean father, my connection to Africa runs deep—it’s not just a destination, it’s home. Since 1991, my parents have been operating safaris, and our family trips shaped my worldview from a young age. Each visit gave me a new lens through which to see the continent.
At six, I was a sponge. It was my first trip, and I absorbed every detail, from the impalas to the termite mounds. But what truly captivated me was our Tswana guide, Water, who became my favorite part of the trip. He taught me that Africa is about more than just wildlife – it’s about the people and the tiny, fascinating parts of the ecosystem, from dung beetles to leopards.
As a teenager, my perspective shifted. As an avid equestrian eventer, I found my preferred view was from the back of a horse. Horseback safaris were raw and thrilling. They offered an intimacy with the wilderness that made me feel like I wasn't just observing nature, but truly existing within it. That exhilarating feeling became the takeaway from that stage of my life.
My most recent safari was for my honeymoon. Traveling alone with my husband, Liam, felt transformative. It was an unforgettable experience to watch him connect with the land and its people in the same way I had years ago.
My journey with Africa has been a lifelong safari, each trip deepening my understanding and shaping my perspective. I can’t wait to apply my personal experiences to help our guests discover their own connection to this remarkable place.
